Chests (Kists) and Sideboards

Sideboard made from walnut

A sideboard designed and constructed for the Shetland museum and archives. Made from oak and ash. The picture on the wall is by Shetland artist Paul Bloomer.

This sideboard is made from walnut and is to a design drawn by the customer's late father. A traditional looking piece which was a pleasure to build.

A close up view of the text carved into the crockery rack (Shetland: "lame rack") of the Walnut sideboard. The inscription is in Flemish, the English translation reads:

"My shield and my trust are you, O God my Lord. On you God will I build, do not leave me ever"

The first chest here is inspired from the shape of a Shetland pony. This gives it a beautiful curved shape.

Smaller chest with a curved lid and cross design on the front.

Design inspired by the chests used by sailors and fishermen for many generations.

A low sideboard made from ingrained ash. Ash is a light coloured wood with a very open grain. This allows us to stain the wood to enhance the visual effect of the grain.
