Baptismal font |
This font was commissioned for the refurbishment of a local church. They asked us the design a font which would symbolism the movement of God Spirit on someone at baptism. The shape of the piece reflects both the fire of God's Spirit and the protection of being under God's wings.
The central bowl is made from local burr elm and symbolises a coracle which were the boats used by the early celtic Christian who first took the Christian faith to Shetland. Boats in the bible symbolise the church, so this reflects how the body of Christ is held and supported by God as we carry out his work and spread the gospel of Christ. |
