With the spare time that we have(!) we like to develop more unusual pieces which have been brewing away inside as we’re working to commission. So many ideas and not enough time. The selection of designs here have mostly been designed as part of the Working Up grant scheme which has been running in Shetland for several years. Managed by Shetland Arts this gives local crafts people funding to help develop skills and ideas which we might otherwise not have had the resources to do.

Excellent blog! Do you have any recommendations for aspiring writers?
I’m planning to start my own website soon but I’m a little lost on everything.
Would you recommend starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option?
There are so many options out there that I’m completely overwhelmed .. Any recommendations? Many thanks!
I guess it depends what you want to do. I have had a paid option before but that was difficult to keep update as I had no control over it. My second website was also a paid option and i thought with that one that the control issues were sorted as i could update it using software on my PC. It ended with very complicated issues to do with the account and who owned it etc and was almost impossible to get it transferred to my name. The great thing about wordpress is that all the technical stuff is in my account. Hopefully this means I won’t have disastrous control issues in the future. If i want to I can completely change the look of the site if i understand the coding. Thankfully i have a great web designer who help with this and doesn’t keep me in the dark about how it works!
