Project Description

Traditional wooden jumper boards have been used in Shetland for generations.

A generation ago most people still wore woollen jumpers made from Shetland wool on the islands and therefore we grow up with jumper being dressed on wooden jumper boards and seeing them stand outside the croft houses so that the gansies could dry on a fine day.

With the huge increase in interest in these traditional skills, the jumper board is now a must-have item if you are knitting a jumper board with quality yarn to stop them from shrinking.

We currently offer two designs of board inspired from antique examples which we have adapted.

The first is the Deluxe jumper board

Designed to fit multiple sizes using an adjustable pin method. Posted flat pack in a postal tube with assembly instructions and a link to an assembly video. Based on a traditional design that has been used in Shetland for generations. Made from Ash timber for great strength and durability. Location pins are stainless steel and therefore do not rust.
