Description
We have been teaching a half-day whittling class during Shetland wool week for many years where people can hand whittle a brooch and pin of their design. Many people have wished to purchase one but I always struggled to come up with a design that I liked. Now that the business has relocated to Bigton I found inspiration in the brooch design found in the St Ninians Isle treasure. This was a treasure hoard found in the 1960s at an archeological dig at on St Ninians Isle chapel site. The treasure pre-dates the Viking era to the time of the Celtic monks. They found highly decorated brooches and bowls made of silver. My brooch design is of the same motif shape of one of the brooches found in the treasure. They are made in various timbers and this will vary depending on what we have in stock.
